Assamese Mati Daali

Come to think of it, dal is kinda a great leveller in this country — the unifying bean 🙂


200 gm whole black beans 
200 gm bottle gourd 
1/4 tsp turmeric powder 
1 tsp ginger paste 
1 tsp garlic paste 
1 tbsp mustard oil


Wash and soak beans for two hours. 
Wash, peel and cut bottle gourd into large chunks. 
Pressure cook beans and gourd in little water and salt for 20 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan, add garlic and ginger along with the cooked gourd and beans.
Mix well and cook for 10 minutes. Serve hot.
